Damara Mopane Lodge
Just east of the town of Khorixas providing an ideal stopover between Swakopmund and Etosha National Park is the unique Damara Mopane Lodge. The wattle and daub style chalets are laid out in a village format, each with its own vegetable and herb garden and the inside walls decorated with copies of the famous Twyfelfontein rock engravings. Shaded by Mopane trees, the chalets are linked to the main lodge building by paths. A viewing point, a bit out of the camp, allows views of the expansive plains and is a great spot for stargazing. Less than two hours drive away is the World Heritage Site of Twyfelfontein with its 2 000-odd rock engravings and art, the surreal Petrified Forest and the impressive Vingerklip Rock. A highlight of any stay here is a sighting of the desert-adapted elephants.
