On this 10 day guided tour you will experience the grandeur of Zimbabwe with a safari in Hwange National Park where endless blue skies arch over a golden-green world teeming with wildlife. Then, take in the powerful waters of the Zambezi River as it cuts a vast gorge into a flat plateau to form the spectacular Victoria Falls.

Day One - Depart Johannesburg

Depart Johannesburg and travel to Makhado.

Day One

Travel to Makhado, for a unique eco-experience amidst stunning scenic beauty in a malaria-free area. Overnight at a lodge in the Morning Sun Nature Reserve. [D]

Day Two

Early morning departure via Musina and Maramani Nature Reserves to the Beit Bridge Border Post, to cross into Zimbabwe. Continue north to the Lodge at the Ancient City, within the shadows of the iconic Great Zimbabwe national monument. [BD]

Day Three

Tour of the Great Zimbabwe Monument, a World Heritage Site, believed to have been fashioned between 1250 and 1450 AD. [BD]

Day Four

Travel to Bulawayo, the City of Kings and Zimbabwe’s second largest city. The city is steeped in the colonial history of the country, particularly that of the Ndebele people and has wide tree lined streets surrounded by beautiful parks, a legacy of Cecil John Rhodes. [BD]

Day Five

Tour of Matobo Hills, a range of domes, spires and balancing rock formations, hewn out of the solid granite plateau through millions of years of erosion and weathering. Matobo National Park, a World Heritage Site, is also the burial place of Cecil John Rhodes and Mzilikazi, the great Ndebele King. [BD]

Day Six & Seven

Travel to Hwange National Park, world-renowned for its daunting size of 14,650 square kilometers, and for the wide variety of game; buffalo, zebra, giraffe, all the big cats, hyena, wild dog, rhino and the world’s largest concentration of elephants. The nearby waterhole provides a great view of game as they come for a drink at the end of the day. Enjoy one game drive in open safari vehicles per day or a visit to the Painted Dog Sanctuary. [BD]

Day Eight & Nine

Travel to Victoria Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Enjoy a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River, in search of hippo, crocodile and elephant in their home environment. Guided tour of the majestic Victoria Falls including views of the eastern cataract, the Main Falls and the Boiling Pot. [BD]

Transfer to Victoria Falls Airport, where the tour ends. [B]

In the evenings firelight and soft music create an intimate atmosphere and you can enjoy delicious meals in an open air summer house or in the great thatched dining hall. Enjoy expert guided tours of Great Zimbabwe, a remarkable world heritage site as well as sunset cruises on the nearby Lake Mutirikwi.

Situated a just outside of the Hwange National Park; Hwange Safari Lodge is great jumping off point for your adventures in this incredible wildlife reserve. Classically appointed en-suite rooms are equipped with air-conditioning and all modern amenities. Hwange Safri Lodge features two bars, two restaurants and a pool area. Expert guides are available to lead you on game drives during the day and night. Watch wildlife while sipping a sundowner at the Waterhole Bar or dine under the magnificent stars of the African Sky.
