The gorgeous Garden Route and its abundant attractions

The Garden Route is ideally explored on a luxury coach road trip. You can sit back and relax and enjoy the incredible scenery of the Tsitsikamma and Outeniqua mountain ranges which run parallel to the stunning southern Cape coastline and harbour large stretches of indigenous hardwood forests and expansive lagoons.

Guests on this tour travel together in a luxury vehicle with a professional guide providing a fantastic quality holiday experience. Guests do have a choice of accommodation options, which may be offered at the same hotel, or at different hotels in the same vicinity (Comfortable / A Cut Above / Premium).

All departures are in English. Dual language German/English commentary and German only commentary are available on selected departure dates (2018 season: Departures are in English or German only).

Tour includes an overnight in Franschhoek instead of Stellenbosch on Day 4.

Day One - Departing Port Elizabeth

Head westwards along the Garden Route, which follows the Indian Ocean coastline and is bordered inland by soaring mountain ranges and indigenous forests.

Day One

You’ll arrive at your hotel in Knysna, known as the oyster box of South Africa, nestling on the banks of a beautiful lagoon in the heart of the Garden Route. The afternoon is at leisure to relax or explore the town. Overnight in Knysna. Enjoy a dinner at a fine local restaurant. [D]

Day Two

After a leisurely breakfast you’ll enjoy a lagoon cruise to the Featherbed Nature Reserve, where you can take a trailer ride to the top of the Western Head to enjoy panoramic views of the town and lagoon, returning for lunch under the milkwood trees. The afternoon is at leisure to further explore this charming town set around a natural harbour lagoon. Overnight in Knysna. [BL]

Day Three

Travel through the Outeniqua Pass to Oudtshoorn, the centre of the world’s Ostrich farming industry. You’ll visit an Ostrich Farm for a guided tour, before taking a tour of the spectacular limestone caverns of the Cango Caves, one of the world’s great natural wonders, sculpted by nature through the ages. Late afternoon you will travel to your hotel in time to check in and relax before dinner. Overnight in Oudtshoorn. [B]

Day Four

Enjoy an early morning Meerkat Safari (optional & for own account). Witness these incredible wild habituated creatures emerging out of their burrows, in time to soak up the sun before they head about their daily activities (weather permitting). After this thrilling experience, head back for a delicious breakfast. After breakfast, travel through the "Little Karoo" to Barrydale, where you will have the opportunity to visit a local farm school, interact with the children and teachers, spending time with them in the classroom learning more about the local farming community (the school visit is subject to the school being open), before continuing to Montagu, a picturesque and historic spa town. Continue to Stellenbosch, the second oldest city in South Africa, surrounded by some of the most spectacular mountains with vineyards as a backdrop (2018 season: Continue to Franschhoek, a picturesque village surrounded by spectacular vineyards, where French Huguenots settled more than 300 years ago, bringing with them their age-old French wine and food culture. Overnight in Franschhoek). [B]

Day Five

After a leisurely breakfast, enjoy a wine tasting in the Stellenbosch area, arguably the country’s most famous wine route. Then finally onto Cape Town, the oldest city in South Africa, spectacularly set at the foot of Table Mountain. Between beautiful Cape Dutch homesteads, traditional dancers with painted faces performing in the streets, the smell of spicy Malay cooking and the taste of a well-made wine, this city will fill your senses. The tour ends on arrival in Cape Town. Guests may be dropped off , on request, at Cape Town International Airport.  [B]

After a leisurely breakfast, our story-telling guide will take us on a tour through Franschhoek village, sharing with us the fascinating history of the French Huguenots and the Huguenot Memorial Museum. Enjoy a wine tasting before continuing to Cape Town, the oldest city in South Africa, spectacularly set at the foot of Table Mountain where the tour ends on arrival. [B]

(For 2018 season: enjoy a guided tour through Franschhoek village as well as a wine tasting before continuing to Cape Town, where the tour ends.)
