Discover magical Kaokoland

Venture into the isolated north-westerly parts of Namibia on this relaxing 11 night mobile safari. You will encounter Namibia’s rare desert-adapted elephants, experience the nomadic culture of the Ovahimbas and visit the spectacular Epupa Falls on the mighty Kunene River. Your safari also includes exciting game drives in the famous Etosha National Park.

Tour Includes

11 nights’ accommodation, a professional guide, game viewing activities, meals as specified, selected drinks, refreshments en route, entrance and park fees and road transfers during your safari.

Day One - Departing Swakopmund

Depart Swakopmund, travelling north along the Atlantic coast, to Namibia’s beautiful Skeleton Coast.

Day One

En route you’ll have the opportunity to visit a shipwreck near Wlotzkasbaken and the seal colony at Cape Cross. In the early afternoon the tour travels to the striking and rugged Damaraland. Possibly enjoy your first encounters with the rare desert-adapted elephants of this beautiful country. Overnight at a lodge in the Damaraland area. [LD]

Day Two

Today you will explore the breathtaking landscapes of a 5500km2 private concession. This is an area teeming with wildlife, from the endangered Black rhino to the famous desert lion. After an exciting day of game viewing you will have your first experience of sleeping in the wild. Enjoy a relaxing drink whilst your meal is prepared on open fire. [FB]

Day Three

Today, following breakfast, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy a short hike around camp before setting off for the Hoanib River. This dry desert environment is home to Black rhino and the desert-adapted elephant. [FB]

Day Four

Enjoy a full day of game viewing and further explore the Hoanib Valley. [FB]

Day Five

After an early morning start we head to the western part of the Kaokoland. You’ll have the chance to meet the Ovahimba people that call this area home. Tonight we will set up camp in the Khumib Valley. [FB]

Day Six

We’ll be heading east today, towards Opuwo and, finally, Ovivero Dam.  En route you’ll encounter more plains-game as well as some Ovahimba herdsmen with their flock on the move in search of better grazing. [FB]

Day Seven

It’s time to visit the majestic Epupa Falls on the mighty Kunene River. Soak up the brilliance of this lush area on an adventurous walk along the falls before heading to the upper rapids for an enjoyable swim. You will stay on the banks of the Kunene River. [FB]

Day Eight

Today you will further explore the area with a drive along the river bank. Later visit a Ovahimba settlement to learn more about their ancient customs and fascinating way of life. Return to the camp on the banks of the Kunene River for your overnight. [FB]

Day Nine

You’ll have an early start to the day. We head for our lodge on the western border of Etosha National Park. The lodge is situated in a concession area of 8,808 ha and is home to a variety of wildlife including elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah and giraffe. You will enjoy exciting game drives and interesting nature walks all lead by knowledgeable guides. [FB]

Day Ten & Eleven

It’s time to explore Etosha National Park! The next two days will be spent exploring this prime wilderness reserve, as well as Ongava Private Game Reserve situated on the edge of the park. You will be spoilt with magnificent wildlife sightings, including the famous Big 5. [FB]

Day Twelve

We bid farewell to Ongava and head to back to Windhoek via Okahandja. You will have the opportunity to visit the Woodcarvers Market for some last minute souvenir shopping before your journey ends on arrival in Windhoek. [B]

We bid farewell to Ongava and head to back to Windhoek via Okahandja. You will have the opportunity to visit the Woodcarvers Market for some last minute souvenir shopping before your journey ends on arrival in Windhoek.

Enter paradise at Palmwag Lodge in the Damaraland region of Namibia. This beautiful lodge is situated on the Uniab River in a concession amidst spectacular surroundings of breathtaking and diverse landscapes boasting a healthy population of desert-adapted black rhino and elephants, a large predator population, as well as giraffe, zebra, gemsbok and more. Bird lovers will also delight at the many Namibian endemic species found here. Set out on morning and afternoon game drives or a guided walk, and sip on something refreshing at the cosy pool bar and lapa—this is a place where palm trees wave gently in the wind and sunsets come to life vividly.

Day Nine

Hobatere Lodge

Situated in a concession area west of Etosha is Hobatere Lodge, a conservancy lodge that allows for an exclusive and memorable wildlife experience amongst free-roaming wildlife—a veritable hotspot for photography and wildlife enthusiasts. When staying here, guests can enjoy warm and personalised service, great food, and chalets that beckon from the middle of the wild. Relax by the pool on a sun lounger under Namibian skies but keep your eyes peeled on the waterhole from the lodge’s verandah. Enjoy nature walks and early morning and night drives accompanied by knowledgeable rangers, and look out for the animals of the night, such as aardvark, Cape fox, bat-eared fox, aardwolf and genet.


Day Ten & Eleven

Andersson's Camp

Located in the Ongava Game Reserve, the big game viewing at Andersson’s Camp is spectacular throughout the year. Tents are constructed from a mix of stone cladding, canvas and wood with small veranda’s and en-suite bathrooms. A renovated farmstead forms the nucleus of the lodge and guests can enjoy fine meals and great views of the scenic landscape. Andersson’s close proximity to the Etosha National Park make it the ideal jumping off point for game drives in this abundant region.
