This tour offers a fascinating and authentic connection to the characterful community of Mondesa, just outside Swakopmund.  The excursion is partially a walking tour in the company of a knowledgeable and entertaining guide who facilitates your visit to a family home where you help prepare Mahango, the local porridge, and sample the local food.  In this bustling township established in 1950’s during the rule of South Africa’s apartheid-era government, you will meet a Herero woman and learn about the making of her traditional dress and the symbolism of her three-cornered headdress.  On the morning tours, you can also visit a crèche in the informal settlement named DRC.  You’ll meet community members who will help you learn the click vocabulary of the Nama-Damara people and gain insights into their fascinating traditional medicine.
