A Timeless Seaside Town, full of Adventure

“Timeless” is the word most often used to describe Swakopmund, a historic German colonial era town that is a favourite holiday destination for both locals and visitors.  Situated south west of Windhoek on the foggy Atlantic coast in the Namib Desert, it is a somewhat surreal and gracious hamlet set amidst sea and sand.  With its palm-lined streets and seaside promenade, restaurants and cafes, galleries and museums, the town itself is laid-back and has its own particular charm.  However, it has become an African adventure mecca due to the wide variety adrenalin and adventure activities on offer in the surrounding desert.

Swakopmund Highlights include:

• Desert tours to see rare, ancient, desert-dwelling Welwitschia plants and to climb the high Namib sand dunes
• Quad-biking, sand-boarding, sand-skiing, parasailing, dune carting, parachuting and other guided adrenaline-inducing activities
• Deep sea fishing and beach angling
• Scenic desert hot air ballooning
• Tours to nearby Walvis Bay where visitors can enjoy marine cruises, kayacking and bird-watching
• Shopping, dining out and relaxing
• Swakopmund Museum, National Marine Aquarium and various historic monuments
