More property updates we have received recently.

Due to the Cape Town Cycle Tour taking place in and around Cape Town (South Africa) on Sunday 11 March 2018, road closures can be expected on both Saturday and Sunday. Please have a look at this Road Closure document to familiarise yourself with the details and to plan your route accordingly. The route to Cape Point will be closed for most of Sunday.

The Springbok Atlas Tours & Safaris Full Day Cape Peninsula, Half Day Cape Point and Full Day Cape Highlights Guided Day Tours (Cape Town, South Africa) will not run on 11 & 31 March 2018 due to the Cape Town Cycle Tour and the Two Oceans Marathon.

Important notice: The Table Mountain Cableway (Cape Town, South Africa) will be closed for its annual maintenance from 23 July 2018 to 05 August 2018. The Cableway will re-open, weather permitting, on 06 August 2018.

As of 08 May 2018, Airlink’s Pretoria to Cape Town route (South Africa) will be suspended.

The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) has lifted the suspension of CemAir’s (South Africa) Aircraft Maintenance Organisation (AMO) approval. In addition, SACAA has lifted the grounding of CemAir’s Dash-8 Q400 aircraft, which will be operated on selected domestic routes.

Hollow on the Square (Cape Town, South Africa) will be closed from Tuesday 01 May 2018 for an extensive ground floor refurbishment and is scheduled to re-open on Wednesday 01 August 2018. The eco-friendly wing, the Green Annexe, will still operate over this period, with breakfast being served at Circa, a neighbouring hotel.

Lanzerac Hotel & Spa (Stellenbosch, South Africa) has amended its opening date to 01 July 2018.

The Strandloper Ocean Boutique Hotel (Paternoster, South Africa) will be closed for renovations from 15 June 2018 and is scheduled to re-open on 24 July 2018.

As a result of a fire which broke out, some of the rooms at Galenia Estate (Montagu, South Africa) have been damaged. The estate is currently open since the main areas, restaurant and certain rooms were not affected by the fire. The fire-damaged rooms and the Jacuzzi area will be rebuilt during the winter closure period – the estate will be closed from 16 May 2018 and is scheduled to re-open on 14 August 2018.

andBeyond Phinda Vlei Lodge (KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa) will be opening earlier than initially planned. The re-opening date was set for 31 May 2018, however this date has been changed to 27 April 2018. 3 of the rooms and the guest areas will open on 06 April 2018 already, but the rest of the rooms will open on 27 April 2018.

Pestana Kruger Lodge (Malelane, South Africa) is currently undergoing a soft refurbishment in a phased approach which will include new furniture, painting and new air-conditioning. This refurbishment will not have any impact on guests and is scheduled to be completed at the end of May 2018.

Tau Game Lodge (Madikwe, South Africa) is fully operational and able to run at full capacity, despite a fire which broke out last year. The main lodge has a newly enhanced reception area, lounge, dining room and bar as well as leisure decks, bomas and pools.

Air Namibia has advised that some aircraft will be undergoing heavy maintenance checks, which commenced at the beginning of November 2017. These checks are scheduled to be complete during June 2018. As of 18 February 2018, the airline is operating only 2 of the 4 aircraft. The following temporary schedule change is effective 18 February 2018 to 23 June 2018:

  • The direct service between Johannesburg and Walvis Bay will be suspended during the indicated period and clients on this route will be transported via Windhoek’s Kutako International Airport.
  • Flights to Lüderitz and Oranjemund will be reduced to 3 times per week, operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
  • There will be a delay to the introduction of flights to Victoria Falls on Thursdays and Saturdays, which were expected to operate from 25 March 2018. These flights will commence from 29 June 2018 onwards.

A new lodge called The Desert Grace will open in Namibia’s Namib Desert in November 2018.

Otjiwa Safari Lodge (Otjiwarongo, Namibia) has discontinued its Self Nature Drive with immediate effect, owing to the concerns for rhino conservation. Clients are welcome to enjoy the nature drive offered by the lodge guides as a replacement.

Moon Mountain Lodge (Sossusvlei, Namibia) has discontinued the Sossusvlei activity as of 05 March 2018, due to poor road conditions.

Hotel Avenida (Maputo, Mozambique) will remain open while refurbishment works on the room floors take place. These works will not interfere with the normal operation of the hotel. The work will take place from 19 February 2018 until 17 March 2018, as well as 09 April 2018 until 30 June 2018. The hotel will be completely closed from 17 March 2018 and is scheduled to re-open on 09 April 2018 for specific renovations.

KAZA UniVisa, a common tourist visa valid for Zimbabwe and Zambia, is available at main ports of entry and is valid for a period of 30 days. This visa also covers those who visit Botswana for day trips through the Kazangula Border.

Royal Livingstone Express (Livingstone, Zambia) has added an additional run day as of 05 March 2018 due to popular demand. The luxury train will now run 3 times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Victoria Rail Services have taken over the Zambezi Tram’s (Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe) operation from 01 March 2018. Victoria Rail Services will be running scheduled morning runs to the bridge, departing 09h00 and returning by 11h00 on Wednesdays and Saturdays. This morning slot will be available every day, provided that a booking has been made and confirmed in writing 24 hours before travel.

Oddballs Camp (Okavango Delta, Botswana) is currently undergoing a revamp, which will be fully completed by the end of May 2018. Areas of accommodation will be refurbished in sections and work will be done while guests are on activities.

Due to low water levels in the Okavango Delta (Botswana), water activities have been temporarily suspended at the following andBeyond lodges and Botswana Expeditions:

  • Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp
  • Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge
  • Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp
  • Xudum Okavango Delta Lodge

andBeyond Xudum Okavango Delta Lodge and andBeyond Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp’s (Okavango Delta, Botswana) transfers to and from the airstrip will now be done by vehicle, which takes approximately 60 minutes.

Transfers between andBeyond Xudum Okavango Delta Lodge and andBeyond Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp (Okavango Delta, Botswana) will now be done by vehicle and will take approximately 90 minutes.

Sanctuary Puku Ridge (South Luangwa National Park, Zambia) will be closed from 07 January 2019 until 31 March 2019, for its annual closure.
