Additional Property Updates


More property updates we have received recently.

Reminder: The Western Cape and the City of Cape Town (South Africa) are currently facing a challenging drought situation due to below average rainfall over a number of years. As a result, locals have daily water restrictions in place and tourists are requested to be water-wise in order to conserve this precious resource while ensuring that visitors enjoy this diverse and world-class destination. Water-related facilities at certain hotels may be influenced during this period. The Western Cape and City of Cape Town are however open for business and ready to welcome all visitors.

Cullinan Holdings Guest Services have renamed some of their services as follows, effective immediately:

  • Airport Service – Silver Service
  • Airport VIP Service – Gold VIP Service
  • Airport VVIP service – Platinum V-VIP Service

Romney Park Hotel & Spa (Cape Town, South Africa) will be closing its doors on 30 April 2018 and will no longer be operating as a hotel and spa.

Hunneyball House (Stellenbosch, South Africa) will be closed for maintenance from 11 June 2018 and is scheduled to re-open on 21 June 2018, and will be closed for maintenance from 16 July 2018 and is scheduled to re-open on 22 July 2018.

Mooiplaas Guest House & Spa (Oudtshoorn, South Africa) has built a swimming pool in front of the main house with a restaurant for guests only. The size of their curio shop has also been increased, with a larger offering of goods.

Ceres Railway (South Africa) has cancelled all the Mossel Bay train trips. Due to lack of interest and the time of year, it is not viable for a train to travel empty. The railway is currently working with Transnet to have 1 of its locomotives run between Mossel Bay and George for the Diaz Festival; however, due to fire risk, the train will not be able to travel to Oudtshoorn with only 1 oil-burning locomotive.

An additional 6 rooms have been built at Ibhayi Guest Lodge (Port Elizabeth, South Africa), bringing the total number of rooms to 30.

Bukela Lodge (Amakhala Game Reserve, South Africa) will be closing during June and July 2018 to allow for an additional 5 Luxury Safari Tents to be built. Exact dates are still to be communicated.

Reminder: Cheetah Plains Private Game Reserve (Sabi Sand, South Africa) has closed for a complete rebuild and is due to open in December 2018. Reservations for travel from 15 December 2018 are open.

Ulusaba Safari Lodge (Sabi Sand Game Reserve, South Africa) will be closed for a refurbishment from 27 May 2018 until 12 June 2018, scheduled to re-open on 13 June 2018. Major work will be done to the lodge’s decks and swing bridges as well as adding a new Safari Suite.

Makalali Game Reserve (Limpopo, South Africa) has increased its conservation fees effective 01 February 2018. This will affect the following lodges:

  • Garonga Safari Camp
  • Little Garonga

Tangala Safari Camp (Thornybush Game Reserve, South Africa) has increased its conservation fee effective immediately.

Iketla Lodge (Mpumalanga, South Africa) has been Fair Trade certified.

Sun International Reminder (Sun City, South Africa): Triples can be accommodated at Sun City Cabanas, Sun City Cascades and Soho Hotel, however please note that the third adult will be accommodated on a sleeper couch in the same room.

Cresta Mowana Safari Resort & Spa (Kasane, Botswana) will undergo a series of refurbishments in the second quarter of 2018. There will be a soft refashioning of all rooms and a redesign of Serondella Restaurant, Savuti Bar and the Boma area. The resort will also update its reception area. Upgrades will be done in stages in order to keep in-house guest disruption to a minimum and to enable the resort to stay open throughout.

Sanctuary Retreats Closure/Refurbishment Dates:

  • Sanctuary Stanley’s Camp (Botswana) – Opened on 24 December 2017 but they are currently busy with soft refurbishments (while remaining open) which will be completed by 01 April 2018
  • Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma (Zimbabwe) – Closed for refurbishments from 07 February 2018 to 13 March 2018. The camp will be operational from 14 March 2018 however a few rooms may be blocked off for soft refurbishments etc. This is set to be completed by 01 April 2018
  • Sanctuary Baine’s Camp (Botswana) – Closed for refurbishments from 07 October 2018 to 22 December 2018
  • Sanctuary Chobe Chilwero (Botswana) – Closed for refurbishments from 20 October 2018 to 10 December 2018

The Lookout Café (Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe) is open for dinner on a daily basis effective immediately. Opening hours are now 08h00 to 22h00 and dinner will be served from 18h30 to 22h00 with the latest food orders at 21h00.

Nehimba Lodge (Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe) will be closed from 01 December 2018 to 28 February 2019.

The 43-room Am Weinberg Boutique Hotel, located in the Klein Windhoek area of Namibia’s capital city, is scheduled to open in July 2018.
