More property updates we have received recently.
Cape Town (South Africa) and surrounds is currently experiencing drought conditions. Due to the water shortage, water restrictions have been implemented which may result in the restriction of some hotel facilities such as swimming pools and baths.
Reminder: Robben Island Museum requires all guests to produce a form of identification when purchasing a ticket and boarding a ferry to the Island. This new regulation is effective immediately. All visitors are required to provide either their identification documents (ID), passport, birth certificate or drivers licence. Copies of these documents will also be accepted.
Six South African hotels have recently been ranked among the top ten of the Top Hotels in Africa in the annual Condé Nast Traveler Reader’s Choice Awards: La Residence (Franschhoek) came in second place, Birkenhead House Hotel (Hermanus) in third, The Saxon Hotel, Villas and Spa (Johannesburg) in fifth, Ellerman House (Cape Town) in sixth, The Oyster Box (Umhlanga) in eighth place, and The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa (Cape Town) in tenth place.
Please note: Age restrictions may apply when participating in bush/game walks, depending on the reserve and lodge’s terms and conditions, and remains at the discretion of the guide. Adults over the age of 60 years may also be required to present a medical certificate or letter from their doctor.
Boschendal (Franschhoek, South Africa) introduced a premier wine tasting experience in the historic Manor House.
Galenia Estate (Montagu, South Africa) will be closed from 16 May 2018 to 14 August 2018 for renovations during the winter period.
The Featherbed Nature Reserve’s (Knysna, South Africa) Ferry Ride & Nature Walk is closed until 31 January 2018. The Ferry, Nature Walk & Lunch (Eco Tour with lunch) will remain closed until 28 February 2018.
Kwandwe Fort House (Addo, South Africa) will be closed from 01 June 2018 to 30 June 2018 for annual maintenance and refurbishments.
For access to Jaci’s Lodges (Madikwe Game Reserve), please use the Abjaterskop Gate until approximately 10 November 2017, instead of the Molatedi Gate.
Important Amendment Note: Stanley and Livingstone (Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe) has amended the dates for its major refurbishment. The lodge will now be closing on 12 November 2017 and re-open on 01 July 2018. Allow approximately 4.5 – 5.5 hour’s transfer from Johannesburg.
Camp Moremi (Okavango Delta, Botswana) will be closed during the rainy season, from 01 December 2017 to 30 April 2018, for a complete re-build and will re-open on 01 May 2018.
Game drive vehicles have been introduced at Xugana Island Lodge (Okavango Delta, Botswana). Activities on offer now also include game drives and night drives, along with mokoro excursions, motorised boat safaris, and walking safaris with experienced armed guides.
Motor boat activities have been suspended at Belmond Eagle Island Lodge as of 30 October 2017 until further notice due to low water levels in the Okavango Delta (Botswana). However, they will continue to offer mokoro and barge safaris. The motor boat activities will be replaced with an open vehicle safari.
Due to the low water levels in the Okavango Delta (Botswana), please take note of the following update on water activities at Sanctuary Camps:
- Sanctuary Baines’ Camp: For now, the mokoro activity will be offered until early 2018 (but subject to change at any time without prior notice). Boat activities are not offered.
- Sanctuary Stanley’s Camp: Stanley’s Camp is able to pole until approximately 2 November 2017. Should the water levels drop further guests have the option of doing the Mokoro activity at Baines’ Camp. Boat activities are not offered.
- Sanctuary Chief’s Camp: Water levels are very low and mokoro activities are therefore no longer offered. Boat activities are also not offered.
Due to the low water level of the Zambezi River (Zambia), it is not recommended to use the standard route to the Royal Livingstone hotel deck. The following will apply until further notice:
- All River Safari cruises will start and end at the Royal Landing
- The Ultimate cruise will depart from the Royal Landing
- No water taxi’s will take place during time
Coral Lodge (Mozambique) will be closing from 29 January 2018 to 16 March 2018 for refurbishments.
