Update: Building of a new house to the front left of Ellerman House (Cape Town, South Africa) was set to be completed in September 2017 but has now been extended until end of October 2017. A crane is still visible from the property but is due to be removed by the end of October 2017. The building of the house is nearly complete and the green garden on the roof is now busy being landscaped.

Table Mountain Cableway (Cape Town, South Africa) has a new queuing system at the lower station as of 01 November 2017. There will be 2 queues for ticket holders, 1 queue for those who have booked online, and another queue for visitors who need to purchase a ticket at the Ticket Office. The new system encourages booking online for a faster and more convenient service.

Please note that the non-heated pool at Cascades, Sun City (North West, South Africa) had to be closed due to unforeseen emergency maintenance required. The maintenance team is currently addressing the issue and believes that the pool will be re-opened on Saturday 07 October 2017.

All lodges and villas at Kwandwe Private Game Reserve (Eastern Cape, South Africa) will close on 17 May 2018 and re-open on 12 June 2018 (except Fort House, which will reopen on 01 July 2018). Routine upgrades and refurbishments will be carried out during this period.

Sun International has confirmed the closure of the Fish River Sun (Eastern Cape, South Africa) at the end of November 2017.

Room Update – Thonga Beach Lodge (iSimangaliso Wetland Park, South Africa): All bathrooms have been completely remodelled. Baths have been removed from all room types and have been replaced with walk-in showers, except in the Deluxe Ocean View and Family Rooms, which now have a porcelain bath tub and shower area. The Deluxe Ocean View Rooms now have an outside shower as well as the indoor shower. Heated towel rails have been installed in all bathrooms. The Forest View Family Room is completely wheelchair friendly.

New “Fat” Bikes are available from Kulala Desert Lodge (Namib Desert, Namibia) at an additional charge. All bookings are made in camp, subject to availability and costs are to be settled directly.

Lianshulu Bush Lodge (Zambezi Region, Namibia) will close for its annual closure period from 01 December 2017 until 15 February 2018. Bookings currently held at Bush Lodge over this closure period will be upgraded to the main lodge.

Hoodia Desert Lodge (Sesriem, Namibia) will be closed from 01 December 2017 until 15 December 2017.

Intu Afrika Suricate Lodge (Kalahari, Namibia) will be closed for renovations from 10 December 2017 until 15 March 2018.

Mondjila Safari Camp (Etosha National Park, Namibia) will be closed from 20 December 2017 until 10 January 2018.

Oase Garni Guesthouse (Kamanjab, Namibia) will be closed from 23 December 2017 until 26 December 2017.

Okahirongo Elephant Lodge (Purros, Namibia) will be closed from 01 February 2018 until 28 February 2018.

Okahirongo River Camp (Purros, Namibia) will be closed from 01 February 2018 until 15 March 2018.

Waterberg Guest Farm (Otjiwarongo, Namibia) will be closed from 22 December 2017 until 03 January 2018.

The upgrade of the Chobe Safari Lodge Rondavels (Kasane, Botswana) is nearing completion and features new improvements, such as new bathrooms, beds, televisions and soft furnishings.

Sanctuary Stanley’s Camp (Maun, Botswana) will be closed for refurbishments from 24 November 2017 until 24 December 2017. The dates are subject to change at any time.

Wilderness Safaris Water Activity Update (Okavango Delta, Botswana):

  • Seba Camp: Water levels are very low and therefore boating will cease soon. Mokoro excursions are still taking place.
  • Abu Camp: No longer offers boat cruises. There is 1 boat, located in the lagoon in front of the camp, which offers fishing.
  • Jao Camp: Still offers boating and mokoro activities. The boat station is now located at the back of the island and the mokoro station is a 25-minute drive from camp. Trips to Hunda Island involve a 35-minute drive followed by a 15-minute boat shuttle.

Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma (Livingstone, Zambia) will be closed for refurbishments from 11 February 2018 until 05 March 2018. The dates are subject to change at any time.

Plastic bags are banned in Kenya for environmental reasons and visitors are asked to avoid bringing them into the country. Being in possession of a plastic bag is considered an offence and violators may be penalised.

Chilo Gorge (Chiredzi, Zimbabwe) will once again offer flights from Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport to Buffalo Range at Chiredzi. Guests of the lodge will have access to this flight from 17 May 2018 until 29 October 2018 after which the flight will be on request basis and subject to availability from 30 October 2018 until 31 December 2018. Flights are scheduled for every Monday and Thursday.
