More property updates we have received recently.
Further to the recent fires that broke out in Knysna (South Africa) and surrounding area on 07 June 2017, please find below an update on affected properties which we have received thus far:
- Phantom Forest Eco Reserve has been destroyed and has been closed off on our system
- Kanonkop House suffered mild fire damage and is currently closed for renovations and alterations and is due to re-open by mid-August 2017. Kanonkop Heights Villa was unfortunately gutted by the fire and is closed until further notice
- Bradach Manor has been destroyed and is currently closed off on our system
- Knysna Hollow has been destroyed and is currently closed off on our system
- Greenfire Lodge Knysna has been destroyed and is closed until further notice
- Hide Away Guest House has experienced some damage to the exterior fencing and garden. They are currently closed and due to re-open on 26 June 2017
- The Featherbed Nature Reserve in Knysna has suffered extensive fire damage. However, the John Benn, Paddle Cruiser, Heads Explorer Catamaran, Knysna Houseboats, the Cruise Café, Bazala and WHEt restaurants are fully operational and open for business. The Featherbed Eco Tour has been affected and we are waiting for more information
- The Plettenberg Park Hotel & Spa in Plettenberg Bay was destroyed in the fire and has been closed off on our system
Reminder: Due to the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway (Cape Town, South Africa) being closed from 24 July 2017, scheduled to re-open on 07 August 2017, the Springbok Atlas Tours & Safaris Guided SC3 Half Day Table Mountain & City Tour will include a drive up Signal Hill (at no additional cost) for a view stop during this period.
Important: The Victoria Falls Marathon will take place on 18 June 2017 (Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe) with runners crossing the bridge at Victoria Falls into Zambia. The border will close at 22h00 on 17 June and will only open to the public at 08h30 on the morning of 18 June. Expect Victoria Falls to be busier on that day.
Update: Lanzerac Hotel (Stellenbosch, South Africa) is currently closed until end of winter 2018 (dates to be confirmed) after a devastating fire on 28 May 2017. However, the Tasting Room and Deli are open for business. They were not affected by the fire and will resume their normal operations.
Important: Kapama River Lodge (Kapama Game Reserve, South Africa) has blocked off all standard rooms for a period of 5 months as of 01 March 2019. The lodge is scheduled to re-open on 01 August 2019. Should the project be completed earlier, this will be communicated. During the refurbishment there will be a minimal impact on the guest experience.
Zensa Lodge (Cape Town, South Africa) is no longer operational, effective 12 June 2017.
Huijs Haerlem (Cape Town, South Africa) will close its doors permanently as of 31 October 2017.
Summerwood Guesthouse (Stellenbosch, South Africa) will be closed for renovations from 13 May 2017 to 15 August 2017.
Erinvale Estate Hotel & Spa (Somerset West, South Africa) will undergo further renovations to its rooms and courtyard area. The second and final phase of the rooms’ refurbishments is scheduled for 01 June 2017, to be completed by 31 August 2017. The affected rooms will be cordoned off and will not create a disturbance for any other guest rooms. The restaurant and public areas leading onto the courtyard may propose a slight intrusion, however this will be minimal.
Protea Hotel by Marriott Franschhoek (Franschhoek, South Africa) is currently closed for refurbishments and is due to re-open on 31 August 2017.
Protea Hotel by Marriott Mossel Bay (Mossel Bay, South Africa) is in the process of refurbishing 3 Deluxe Rooms and bathrooms and 7 harbour suites and bathrooms. Work has commenced and anticipated completions are 30 July 2017. Room names have also been amended.
Protea Hotel by Marriott Knysna Quays (Knysna, South Africa) will undergo a refurbishment of 28 bathrooms as the final phase to the recent upgrades at the hotel. Anticipated commencement of the project is 10 July 2017 and estimated completion is by the end of September 2017.
The J-Bay Zebra Lodge (Jeffrey’s Bay, South Africa) is no longer operational after a recent fire.
Elephant House (Eastern Cape, South Africa) is currently closed (as of 31 May 2017) due to annual general maintenance and is scheduled to re-open on 29 June 2017.
Protea Hotel by Marriott Umhlanga Ridge (Umhlanga, South Africa) will undergo an upgrade of the door locking systems for all rooms within the hotel. The project will commence in July 2017.
Liliesleaf Farm (Johannesburg, South Africa) will be closed on 12 June and 13 June 2017 for staff training.
Protea Hotel by Marriott Upington Oasis (Upington, South Africa) will leave the Protea Hotels by Marriott portfolio effective 01 July 2017.
Protea Hotel by Marriott Pretoria Hatfield (Pretoria, South Africa) commenced with the construction of an additional 95 bedrooms to create a total of 214 rooms. A new restaurant, bar and additional conference and meeting rooms will also be added. Work on the building project started in May 2017 and the first phase is due for completion in November 2017, after which the second phase of the work will commence. The projected completion date for all of the work is May 2018.
Protea Hotel by Marriott Pretoria Centurion (Pretoria, South Africa) has commenced a soft refurbishment on all Standard Rooms, due to be completed on 26 August 2017.
Refurbishment of the main pool and Golf Clubhouse and Bar at the Sabi River Sun Resort (Hazyview, South Africa) is currently underway and is set to be completed by 31 August 2017. The main entrance to the property is also being rebuilt and a temporary entrance and exit is currently being used.
Lion Sands Tinga Lodge (Kruger National Park, South Africa) will be opening a brand-new Family Suite on 01 August 2017, which will have 2 bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom. The suite has been designed for smaller groups of families or friends.
Lion Sands Narina Lodge & Tinga Lodge (Kruger National Park, South Africa) have a new Ambassador Room which is well suited for Tour Leaders and Drivers/Guides.
Lion Sands River Lodge (Sabi Sand Game Reserve, South Africa) will no longer offer private safari vehicles. The lodge is currently undergoing some upgrades as well, including adding a private plunge pool to the 2 River Suites and a new Africology Spa.
Moditlo River Lodge (Hoedspruit, South Africa) has opened 2 new additional rooms.
Sanctuary Puku Ridge (South Luangwa National Park, Zambia) will be closed from 06 January 2018 to 31 March 2018 for its annual closure period.
